WEA Women@Work: Ideas about the media and tools to get the best from the press.
Time: 12pm - 2pm
Whether it's Foxy Knoxy, Cheryl Cole or the woman who cut up her husband's clothes, women are the subjects of daily news reports. These representations of women create an impression but do they tell us anything about who the women really are?
We can use the news to inform our opinions but we also need to know what ideas underpin news reporting.
In this session we will cast a critical eye over the news of the day in order to:
- Compare the ways different papers report the same story.
- Explore press reports and identify their political perspectives.
- Identify the ways these perspectives shape reporting.
- Discuss the consequence of this for the ways women are represented in the press.
This session will draw on ideas about the media and provide you with the tools to get the best from the press.
