Highland Deaf Education Staff work in partnership with parents, colleagues from Education, Health, Social Work and voluntary agencies to ensure that the needs of deaf and hearing impaired children are met. The Council promotes an inclusive approach to service provision and takes account of individual needs and circumstances.
We aim to offer support and advice to hearing impaired children, their families and school staff working with the child from diagnosis to leaving school. The main focus of our work is with severe and profoundly deaf pupils. However, we can also offer support and advice to pupils with mild and moderate hearing losses including glue ear. Support may be given at home, in the local school or in the additionally resourced schools in Dingwall. Our contact with a child varies depending on how a child copes with their hearing impairment. Contact can be as little as sending out an information leaflet or as much as specialist one to one teaching. We have a small number of peripatetic staff who travel to support hearing impaired pupils in their local school.
